The Formosan flying fox is a unique subspecies of bat found only in Taiwan, and it is the largest bat on the island. Its population is very small and limited in range. Since 1989, it has been listed as an endangered species under Taiwan’s Wildlife Conservation Act and is currently classified as critically endangered in the national Red List of terrestrial mammals. Its survival remains at great risk, and urgent conservation efforts are needed to prevent its extinction from Taiwan’s natural environment.
