Book Description |
As a prelude to the potential establishment of the “National Cartoon Museum,” this book recorded two special cartoon exhibitions organized by the National Taiwan Historical Museum in 2019. “Democratic Institution (for fun): Political Cartoon in Taiwan Special Exhibition” highlighted how Taiwanese cartoonists exposed authoritarian rule by their mighty pencils in creative but sarcastic fashion, and that the audience can appreciate the hard-earned achievements in Taiwan’s democracy. “Young Romance: Taiwan’s Cartoon on Young Girls” special exhibition depicted an image of book rental shops in early days and explored for connections between cartoons in Taiwan and Japan, leading the audience into deep memory. In recent years, cartoon in Taiwan has gone beyond boundaries after numerous experiments, and has created a highly recognizable and diversifying “Taiwanese Style” that is independent from Japan and Europe. Looking into the future, innovators, publishers, researchers and the audience can work together, with the support from industry, academia and government, to found the National Cartoon Museum, where all walk of life can systematically feel the magic fusion power of cognitive graphics and humanity.
